  • What's the purpose of DR.FSU?

The DR.FSU represents the interests of doctoral students at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. Whether academic staff, doctoral students with scholarships or doctoral students in external structures: our goal is to be the mouthpiece and contact for all doctoral students and to contribute to improving the conditions for doctoral studies.

  • Why is it important for PhD students to be a part of DR.FSU?
    • We deal with university policy issues relevant to young academics, organise events with a scientific background and offer networking opportunities for doctoral students at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (e.g. through doc_table or cine_docs).
    • If you are interested in contributing to this, then DR.FSU is the right place for you. Just send us an email: dr.fsu@uni-jena.de
  • What did DR.FSU achieve in the past?
    • The DR.FSU has ensured that doctoral students have the right to speak and propose in all relevant committees of the university.
    • In addition, we published a position paper on the topic of "Abuse of Power and Conflict Resolution" and successfully lobbied for the change of the "rule of thirds" in the PhD implementation regulations of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy.
    • Furthermore, we have improved networking among PhD students and established networks with other PhD councils from other cities.
  • Is DR.FSU linked to other such representatives in Germany?

We are a member of the VMPV, the Association of Doctoral Students in Central Germany, and, thus, have close contact with other doctoral students' representatives such as Leipzig or Dresden.

  • What influence does DR.FSU have on regulations at the university?

We have the right to propose and speak in all faculty councils of the university. This allows us to express our opinion on relevant topics and, above all, to bring your concerns to the faculties. In addition, we are also represented in the central institutions of the university such as the senate, the research committee or the extended presidium, where we also have the right to propose and speak.

  • Who can attend the council meetings?

Anyone can attend our monthly meeting. Just check under "Events" when the next meeting will take place and write us a message: dr.fsu@uni-jena.de.

  • I'm having problems with my supervisor. What can I do?

If you have problems with your supervisor, it is best to contact us or the Graduate Academy. There is also an ombudsman's office de at the university.

  • How can you contribute to the work of the DR.FSU?

Follow our activities via the social media channels and join our monthly council in order to take active part to our collaborative work.

  • How are the members of the DR.FSU elected?

The members of the new legislature are elected out of a pool of candidates who voluntarily applied to the electoral office. They are elected by the PhD students of FSU through one of the official university board elections.
