Workshop discussion on the Law for fixed-term academic contracts

On March 22, 2022, a representative of the DR.FSU took part in a workshop discussion with State Secretary Carsten Feller on the duration of fixed-term employment contracts at universities, along with other representatives of the Thuringian doctoral students' councils. The presidents of the state universities, the chairwoman of the main staff council and the chairwoman of the main representative body for the severely disabled were also invited. After a brief overview by the State Secretary on the current figures of fixed-term employment contracts in the academic mid-level staff, all those present contributed their views. The representatives of the doctoral students were particularly in favor of longer contract terms, fairer contract conditions and the creation of additional budget positions for permanent bureaucratic tasks. The State Secretary seems to be aware of the problems of the contract situation of doctoral students and postdocs and promised to develop perspectives for improvement.
